The 2022 League of Legends World Championships group stage has completed. While some things occurred as planned, many others surprised supporters.
How will the remainder of the group stage go? Will second round robin be like first? Worlds ’22 will become predictable when?

Worlds 2022: Upsets and broken expectations
Nearly every Group at Worlds suffered a first-round upset. Even 0-9 for North America is shocking. A large area is winless. The myth that LCK and LPL are incredibly dominating has been destroyed as we enter a second round.
FNATIC Celebrates Group A
Group A at Worlds 2022 has been entertaining. After three matches, EDG, T1 and FNC are all 2-1. Since Cloud9 hasn’t won a match, their Worlds run is nearly over. The North American squad wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t enough to win. Something must alter in C9, since the early game and late-game macro are both terrible. Only a miracle could get them out of this group; they accomplished it once before, but now all the stars must align to force a tiebreaker… not likely
Rest of team is neck-and-neck. Anyone can defeat anyone on paper, depending on how the teams play. Fnatic screwed up early against EDG, but they should do better in round two. T1’s individual players have finally stepped up at Worlds, while the bot lane has returned to form: Gumayusi and Keria have showed flashes of the dominant tandem from the first part of the season. Koreans will also fight.
EDG’s full potential is the trickiest to gauge as they lost to T1 and Fnatic gave them a free victory. The squad has been playing more in the mid lane than the bot lane versus T1 and FNC. EDG will have a harder time winning late-game teamfights if they bleed and lose Viper.
A three-way draw is possible, making this the trickiest Worlds group to forecast. C9 might steal a victory from one of the other three teams, ending their streak. If you’re not a risk-taker, wait until Day 5’s opening match.
Two weeks ago, we worried whether Fnatic would make play-ins.
NOBODY IN GROUP B IS SAFE
Group B is the most predictable group in terms of standings. JDG’s 3-0 record demonstrates why they won LPL.
DK is second, depending on early-game execution. The Korean team was equal with JDG in their frontal combat, but they fell in late-game teamfights.
G2 fought evenly with JDG until the finish. G2 can compete with the greatest on its day. G2 lacks DK’s early game and JDG’s late game teamfighting, thus their third position shows their strength.
EG struggles with the rest of NA. Despite strong play-in results, Evil Geniuses struggled in the first round. EG was crushed in every game except against JDG, when they got the first blood and went even early.
JDG will likely finish first, followed by DK and G2 assuming G2 can advance. EG will win if they don’t go 0-6.
ROGUE DOMINATING GROUP C WAS UNFORESEEN.
European fans love Group C. Rogue leads the rankings after three overwhelming victories, and one more will certainly ensure a Top 8 position.
Despite having the LCK’s 4th seed, DRX is doing well. On a good day, Pyosik can carry the squad. The Korean squad will likely compete for the second position with Top Esports, a Worlds letdown. Jackeylove has been caught out of position, and the squad is disorganized. There are flashes of the LPL finals squad, but all of the players aren’t doing well: TES may be the only Chinese team that doesn’t advance.
Many anticipated OKBET Esports to be the dark horse, but the Vietnamese team isn’t delivering. Their lack of recent international experience may be a role, but it seems like opponents are reading them too easily. They’re not awful, but they’re behind the other three.
RNG and GEN.G qualify from Group D in reverse order.
Group D is arranged similarly to Group B. RNG had the most dominating and cleanest games in the group stage, even with Gen.G.
The LCK’s top seed hasn’t performed as anticipated for a tournament favorite. While they’re second and should finish in the top two, their Worlds odyssey may end in the Knockout Stage.
CFO beating 100T shows that PCS is still powerful despite many Taiwanese players departing. Talents and potential remain, but Taiwanese teams are far from their golden days of upsetting Gen.G or RNG.
NA hasn’t won a match in the group stage due to 100T’s 0-3 record. As this year’s Worlds hosts, it’s a bad sign for the LCS. CFO appears like the only squad that can beat 100T’s record. If the LCS second seed fails, the region will have its worst tournament ever.
Knockouts games should become more predictable. Group resolution might bring big fiestas. Wait until Bo5 series, where LCK and LPL are comfortable. Here’s where our LoL Worlds Power Rankings will matter.
